F. Holland Day — Robed Figure Framed Photography Print

F. Holland Day was one of the founding fathers of Pictorialist photography - a movement that insisted the camera could make art as seriously as any painter's brush. He was also deeply strange, in the best possible way: a mystic, an aesthete, a man who once spent weeks fasting and growing his hair to photograph himself as the crucified Christ.

This 1899 photograph shows a shirtless man in a long robe - hieratic, otherworldly, somewhere between prophet and wanderer. Digitally restored by The Wiggly Easel and given a bold colour intervention: a golden border set against deep maroon, framed and ready to hang.
